Coaching FAQs

What is life coaching?

According to the International Coaching Federation, life coaching is the process of "partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential."

"Laser-focus" is often described as the process of consistently aligning thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and actions with goals to achieve success.

Whereas traditional life coaching is often transactional-focused on goal-specific results, laser-focused coaching is TRANSFORMATIONAL-focused on achieving rapid change and life-changing breakthroughs in EVERY session.

What's the difference between coaching and counseling?

Though coaching and counseling are intended to help clients achieve positive changes, there are some important differences in these approaches. According to Peggy Adeqoke, "Therapy typically focuses on healing the wounds of the past. It deals with healing pain, dysfunction, and conflict within an individual or in relationships. The focus is often on resolving difficulties arising from the past that hinder or obstruct an individual’s emotional functioning in the present, improving overall psychological functioning, and dealing with the present in more emotionally healthy ways. Coaching, on the other hand, supports personal and professional growth. It focuses primarily on the future. Coaching is for those who are emotionally and mentally healthy and ready to grow. The emphasis on a coaching relationship is on action, accountability, and follow-through."

What can I expect during a coaching session?

Coaching sessions will generally last an hour or less and be conducted via phone or audio-video platform, whichever you prefer.  As coaching is a partnership between you and your coach, YOU will set the agenda.Your coach will ask you what you'd like to work on and solicit any information needed to better understand your current challenges and make an agreement about what you'd like to achieve in the session. Then, utilizing compassionate, intensive listening and thought-provoking questions the laser-focused coach "shines a light" on your unique strengths and skills as well as any limiting beliefs, thoughts, or barriers that may be holding you back. Armed with these powerful new insights, you will purposefully design an action plan with your coach to achieve your goal!

What if I have trouble achieving my goal?

No worries! Understanding that positive change isn't always easy, your coach will support you all along the way by helping you to tweak your plan, identify barriers, and identify any additional resources to help you learn, grow, and reach your full potential!
